The orange arrow points to a recently installed hardwood cill at the base of a top floor window at the rear of Devon Court, Links Road, W3 0EH. This photograph was taken during a survey on 28 February 2020. The wood was new and unpainted and installed as part of the 2019-2020 HHGE External Repairs Project
Another view of the same window also taken on 28 February 2020.
A close up view of the same window cill taken on 28 February 2020. Two defects can be noted. (1) ORANGE ARROW: There is no “throat” or drip groove on the under surface of the cill. (2) BLUE ARROW:There is a longitudinal crack in the wood at the LHS. This wood is of inferior quality and should never have been used.
The same window cill photographed 3 months later on 8 June 2020. Note that the wood has still not been painted after being exposed a rain over 3 months and there are serious damp stains on the under surface of the wooden cill.

The photographs above that show the multiple problems with a single cill are just one example of hundreds of problems with the 2019-2020 HHGE External Works program. In summary these problems as highlighted above are;

  1. Use of substandard materials: i.e. cracked wood.
  2. Use of incorrect materials: Cill has no throat or drip groove.
  3. Poor planning: Why has this cill been exposed to the elements for 3 months ?
  4. Poor supervision: Why have these faults not been picked up previously either the HHGE Board of Directors or the Contract Manager ?
